If you’ve ever attended a large scale Peconic Land Trust event like Peconinic or Through Farms & Fields, you have Bridget Micieli-Martinez to thank. As the Senior Marketing and Events Manager, she plans everything you experience from the invitation in your mailbox, to parking when you first enter a site, to the color tablecloth you’re eating off. These details big and small add up to a wonderful event for everyone and bring us all closer to the land we’ve helped conserve.
Bridget got her start on Long Island as a hospitality manager, working at some of the East End’s top vineyards and would later become a certified sommelier. Such a long stint in wine and hospitality made her a natural fit for this role. “I come from an industry that has benefited from conservation work, some Long Island vineyards and landowners our are biggest supporters at the Trust,” added Bridget when talking about how her experience influences her conservation work.
Over the past seven years, Bridget has helped lead the Trust’s transition into a more digital world. The pandemic created a need for more video work and virtual programming including events on Zoom. Through the Trust’s continuing education program, she is working on a Certificate of Graphic Design from Parsons. With her new skills she hopes to use imagery to better capture the feeling of the Trust’s preserves with those who might not be able to experience our work on their own.
When in-person programming returned, the Trust saw an increase in attendance at all our events. Peconinic sold out for the first time in 2022. Bridget commented on this phenomenon, “The pandemic showed us the importance of and need for human connection. Prior to the pandemic, we took gatherings for granted. Although it may be in the rearview mirror, the feeling of separation is still close enough to realize that it can happen again. We all want to experience a connection with the land and to each other.”
