Since the inception of Suffolk County’s Farmland Preservation Program in the mid-1970s, over 12,000 acres of farmland have been preserved by the County. Nearly 4,000 acres are in Southold alone, along with over 1,200 pre-1900 historic structures, 7 historic museums and two historic districts.
