Donor Spotlight | Southold Remains an Anchor for the Flick Family

Profile

We bought our home in Southold over thirty years ago. As our family grew, every summer Southold became the anchor place for our family. No matter where we had moved for work at the time, we found time to return. The more time we spent on the North Fork enjoying the local food, wine, watersports, and friendly people, the more we appreciated the work of the Peconic Land Trust.

From the very beginning, our impression was that the Trust helps multiple groups of the local community. From local farming to coastal conservation, the Trust’s efforts support a better balanced and more environmentally friendly development of the East End. This can be seen through a number of land conservancy initiatives the Trust has led on the North Fork, from the Wolf Preserve in Southold to Edwards Farm in Orient.

Most recently the Deep Hole Creek project in Mattituck has caught our attention. A 15-acre parcel along the creek was proposed for a 7-lot subdivision. The Trust worked with the community, property owners, and Southold Town to achieve a conservation outcome. The Trust will become the interim owners of the property while a conservation buyer is found. We were happy that the timing worked out and we could contribute a little bit to that absolutely worthwhile effort.

For us, the Trust represents a very worthwhile cause because of its leadership in the field of land conservancy, its quality staff, and the measurable benefits it provides to the community by protecting the environment in a sensible way.

Our hope is that future generations will admire and appreciate the conservation efforts of today.

We are thankful to Hans Flick and Celeste Kime, for sharing their story with us. The Flick family and donors like you allow us to continue to protect natural resources on the East End.
