Join us and meet Holly Sanford and Dan Heston of the Peconic Land Trust to learn more about our efforts to protect and restore an important part of our history: The 1747 Ltn. Moses Case House. Ltn. Case, a member of one of Southold’s founding families and a ‘Patriot of the Revolution,’ built this American Cape-style home in 1747. We’ve all watched as more and more of our historic homes and heritage disappear across the East End. Recently, the Peconic Land Trust was able to acquire this home and relocate it to Cleo’s Corner, the Trust’s preserve on the corner of Horton’s Lane and Route 48, which includes five acres of productive farmland. Now, the Trust is working with the community to restore this house and incorporate into its Farms for the Future Initiative – a program that provides access to affordable farmland. The plan for the home is to lease it to a local farmer as part of the program.
