Places to Visit | Lt. Moses Case House at Cleo’s Corner
In 2018, the historic 1747 Lt. Moses Case House was donated to the Trust. The house itself was given to us – not the land it was on. We had to relocate it to make sure this piece of history was preserved. Luckily, we had a perfect spot – Cleo’s Corner.
Cleo’s Corner is part of the Trust’s Farms for the Future Initiative at Charnews Farm. It’s located on Horton’s Lane and Route 48 in Southold. The property includes a 5-acre farm field that can be leased to new farmers.
In 2019, the Case House was moved and restoration began! From a new foundation to a new wood-shingled roof, we’re maintaining the best version of the periods the house represents and helping to maintain the historic rural character of the North Fork.
Now is your chance to see inside the home of the Revolutionary Hero, Lt. Moses Case. On Friday, November 25th from 2 to 4:30 p.m., in collaboration with the Southold Historical Museum’s Annual Holiday Candlelight Tour, the Trust welcomes the public to a Holiday Open House to view our historic restoration of the Case House.
Dan Heston, Director of Agricultural Programs, will be available to answer questions about the restoration. For historical information about the house and Lt. Moses Case, Holly Sanford, Senior Project Manager, and Karen Lund, local historian, will be on site.
If you can’t make it on the 25th, the house is always viewable from the roadside.
