The weather and turn out could not have been better for the flower workshop held at the North Fork Flower Farm (NFFF) in June. Drianne, one of the NFFF’s co-owners, started the event by taking the participants on a tour of the gorgeous property. She explained a history of how the farm, established in 2016, has grown and how she has learned to care for the flowers over the years. After viewing the various hoop houses and fields of blooms, the attendees took shelter from the sun in the shady workshop. Snippers and glass mason jars pre-filled with flower-favoring water (Drianne shared the secret to treating water to extend your bouquets life) awaited the attendees, as well as buckets full of a magical variety of blooms.
After Drianne explained a few best practices to keep in mind when creating a bouquet (color, texture, height, and shape to name a few), the participants were given free reign. If someone had a question Drianne was ready with an answer, but each attendee arranged a bouquet as unique they are. No one left the workshop without a smile and a stunning bunch of blooms in hand. There are whispers that a follow up event will be hosted at NFFF in the fall, so if you couldn’t attend this time, keep your eyes peeled for the next opportunity. And of course, the NFFF CSA is still accepting subscribers.
