Ways to Give

Legacy and Planned Giving

A Gift for Future Generations

You can create a lasting legacy by remembering the Peconic Land Trust in your will. By including a charitable gift in your estate or financial plans, you are ensuring that Long Island’s beautiful beaches, clean water, working farms, majestic woodlands, and pristine wetlands will be protected for generations to come.

Forever gifts of cash, stocks or bonds, land, tangible personal property, or any other assets are welcome and appreciated. And, by letting us know about your planned gift today, we can thank and welcome you to our Legacy Circle.

“I love the East End and wanted to leave a legacy for future generations that would nourish the essence of this place we call home. I chose to leave a gift to the Peconic Land Trust in my will. Please join me in looking towards the future – a future that values working farms, natural lands and the heritage we all share.”

Build your legacy with us

Our goal is to know you, and your wishes, well enough so that we can accurately reflect your plans in the future. If your gift involves land or a specific purpose, this can be especially important. Your intensions are important to us, and we want to fully understand them to ensure that they can be fulfilled.

To help you get started on your plans and legacy, we have partnered with FreeWill, an online tool that guides you through the process of creating a legally valid will or trust. It’s free and easy to use, accessible online, and can be completed in 20 minutes. You can use this resource on its own, or you can use it to document your wishes before finalizing your plans with your attorney. If you are working directly with your attorney, we request and recommend inclusion of this sentence in your documentation:

"I give, devise, and bequeath ___% or $___ of my estate to the Peconic Land Trust, Inc., a nonprofit charitable organization with its office in Southampton, New York."

Have you already included a gift in your will or trust?

If you have already remembered us in your legacy planning, please know how much we appreciate your thoughtfulness. We would love to thank you for your generosity, so please complete this form to let us know.

Do you have an IRA, 401(k), life-insurance policy, or any other assets not included in your will?

These are called non-probate assets and your beneficiaries must be planned for these assets separately. Please use our beneficiaries tool to make your plans and designate the Peconic Land Trust as a beneficiary of one or more of these assets.

What is the Peconic Legacy Circle?

Peconic Legacy Circle members have let us know their intention to remember the Trust in their estate planning. And, by letting us know your intentions now, we are able to honor and celebrate your generosity with public recognition and by invitation to special donor events. For a list of Legacy Circle members who choose to be acknowledged publicly, visit the Boards and Councils section of our website.
