About

Channing Daughters Winery and the sculpture gardens featuring larger than life works by Walter Channing sits within over 100 acres of conserved land nestled south of Scuttlehole Road and east of Lumber Lane, including the distinctive inverted tree sculpture that is the brand for the famed vineyard.

Walter and his wife Molly began working with the Peconic Land Trust in the early 1990s on conservation initiatives that protected 57.9 acres between 1993 and 2007. These acres, including vines, meadows, and woodland are located within an area that includes an additional 48 acres of agricultural reserve and open space protected by the Town of Southampton.

Walter passed in 2015 and Molly, along with their daughters — Francesca, Isabella, Sylvia and Nina — continues to care for and nurture the land. With partners Larry Perrine, Christopher Tracy, the winemaker, and Allison Dubin, the Channing Daughters Winery is thriving, producing unique and desirable wines grown from grapes in the heart of Bridgehampton.

What started as an “experiment” in the late 1980s when Walter began growing Chardonnay and Merlot grapes as an experiment, and the wines produced into the 1990s were just for private consumption, today the wines produced by Channing Daughters are award-winning and internationally recognized. To learn more about the early conservation story, please see the The Trust’s October 1994 newsletter!
