Sylvester Manor is a 236-acre historic plantation and non-profit educational farm on Shelter Island. As the ancestral home of the Indigenous Manhansett people, the 1737 Georgian Manor house was home to 10 generations of the original European settler family and from the 17th – 19th centuries, was a place of enslavement of African people. The mission of the Manor is to cultivate, preserve and share historic Sylvester Manor, telling the stories of all people who lived, worked, and died there. Please join us for an historic walking tour of the grounds, old growth forest, and farmland, with a stop at the burial ground of enslaved people, and the manor house itself. Closed-toed shoes recommended. Bring your water bottle.
Suggested donation $10/person. Space is limited, reservations required. Rain cancels.
We're celebrating the Peconic Land Trust's 40th anniversary in 2023! Themed "40 for 40," our Connections activities will bring you to 40 special places whose conservation has had an impact.
