On what would have been Peter Matthiessen’s 95th birthday, the Peter Matthiessen Center is hosting a “family reading” event at the Sag Harbor Whaling Museum followed by a light reception. The event is free and open to the public and will provide an opportunity to learn more about the Peter Matthiessen Center–a space for writing, environmental conservation & contemplative practice on the East End.
The event, which begins at 4pm on May 22nd, will feature readings by Peter’s widow, Maria Matthiessen, and three of his children – Alex, Luke and Rue Matthiessen, as well as an introduction by local farmer, poet and Zen student, Scott Chaskey. The readings, along with a moderated discussion afterwards, will take place at the Sag Harbor Whaling Museum (on their front portico and lawn, or inside if weather requires). The event is being underwritten by Peter Matthiessen Center committee member Paul Rogers, and co-hosted by The Peconic Land Trust, which also serves as the PMC’s fiscal sponsor.
Space is limited and reservations are required. Please contact Daniela at info@matthiessencenter.org for more information and to reserve a spot.
