The Peconic Land Trust is celebrating 40 years of protecting Long Island’s working farms, natural lands, and heritage. We are excited to offer a part-time, seasonal job opportunity in our Farms for the Future Initiative to handle general grounds maintenance and landscaping in and around Cutchogue. Long Island farms and farmers are central to our economy, heritage, and the stewardship of some of the best farmland in the country. The Farms for the Future Team help ensure that Long Island’s farms and farming communities remain viable and productive now and in the future.

The successful candidate will be able to operate a zero-turn mower, push mower, string trimmer, and chainsaw with the ability to work 20 hours per week with flexible hours and days Monday-Friday from May-October 2024.

Position Responsibilities

Major responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Mowing, weeding and maintaining the lawn
  • Trimming and maintaining shrubs, hedges and trees
  • Weed-whacking, fence-line cleaning and repairs
  • Operating related machinery and tools including chainsaw, trimmers, mower

Qualifications/Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent experience
  • Valid driver’s license - must be able to commute to Cutchogue
  • Previous experience operating required machinery
  • Basic knowledge of maintenance and repairs for 2-cycle tools and hand tools
  • Effective oral communication skills
  • Ability to follow directions and work well with a team or alone
  • Must be able to lift and carry 40 lbs. and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • The hourly rate is $20-$23 per hour commensurate with experience.
