Trust Donates Easement to Town of Southold

Conservation News

The Soundview Avenue Preserve is a small preserve with a big impact. The ecologically important land is located along a native forest corridor on Soundview Avenue in Southold. The woodlands have a variety of plant species, including native wildflowers and Jack-in-the-pulpit, as well as grasses, mosses, and shrubs that create a healthy habitat.

Thanks to the support of over 25 neighbors, the Trust purchased the parcel in April 2021. The community wanted to protect the land that provides not only a scenic vista but offers important groundwater recharge for our sole source aquifer. That protection was made permanent this December when the Trust donated a conservation easement on the preserve to the Town of Southold. The easement perpetually protects this wooded gem for future generations.
