Hello Fellow Food Lovers! I’m Katie Doe Putkowski, one of Quail Hill Farm’s Advanced Apprentices for the 2017 growing season.

A little about me: I hail from Georgia, more specifically the Northeastern area of the state. My interest in farming stems from childhood experiences as an equestrian and an ever-present admiration for Mother Nature. I have worked in organic vegetable growing, sheep and chicken husbandry, fruit production and some forestry.

While growing in central Georgia, I helped form a growers co-op called The Middle Georgia Growers. Our hope with the organization was to give small, rural based farmers access to metropolitan markets. While gaining outside income for our partner farms, we stood to create sustainable community farms in bucolic areas of our state where organic operations are unfortunately few and far between. Part of the reason why I am here at Quail Hill is to not only learn how to produce food in a more mild climate, but to understand what creates success within a long standing farm business.

I look forward to getting to know what the South Fork of Long Island (and its people) have to offer and know that I have struck it rich in my opportunity at Quail Hill Farm. Community drives modern agriculture. That is why I am eager to get to know the Peconic Land Trust and all of its supporters.
