Expanding Trail Access in Riverhead

We’re working on the first Peconic Land Trust trail in the Town of Riverhead that is open to the public. The trail will run through the Granttham Preserve along the Long Island Sound.

This month, the Trust was awarded a $61,200 Stewardship and Resource Management Grant from the Land Trust Alliance New York State Conservation Partner Program (CPP), which will cover a portion of the cost of the trail. The funding for the CPP program comes from the State’s Environmental Protection Fund, and is managed by the Land Trust Alliance in partnership with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. The grant funds will be used to help complete a new hiking trail, adding a small parking lot, and signage at the Granttham Preserve. Initial trail work was completed by Eagle Scout Noah Berry.

We can’t wait to welcome you to this beautiful natural area! Stay tuned, the trail should be opening this summer. To learn more about this project and other trail systems, contact Jessie McSwane, Senior Stewardship Manager.

We still need to raise additional funds to complete this project! To support the creation of this trail and others across the East End, contact Amanda Abraham, Director of Development.
