Climate Tip | Plant Your Own Garlic

October 8, 2021

Now is the perfect time to plant your own garlic. Purchase seed garlic from a local garden center or farm supply, not garlic from the grocery store which has been treated to resist sprouting. Divide each head into individual cloves. Plant each clove in a row as late as the beginning of November and they’ll sprout by the end of February, and are ready for harvest in mid-July. Each clove planted will produce a new head of garlic.

Homegrown garlic will not only provide for tasty dishes in the summer, but will help protect your garden from pests. Garlic is a known deterrent for aphids, mice, rats, rabbits and deer. Plant some cloves today!
