Time for Timberdoodle and the Skydance
Early evening is an excellent time to seek out birds and other wildlife. Join us to explore this park, one of the first conservation areas protected by Suffolk County in the early 1970s and part of the Long Pond Greenbelt’s fragile coastal plain pond system. Led by local conservation biologist Dr. Bruce Horwith, you’ll walk the trail through woods to a grassy meadow favored by the elusive timberdoodle, also known as the woodcock. If we’re lucky, we may witness their mating dance! Bring binoculars, flashlight, tick protection, and dress for the weather.
