The Farm Breakfast: June 28
8:00 aM
You know that summer has arrived when the time rolls around for the annual Farm Breakfast at Quail Hill. Over 300 farm members meet, greet, and mingle in early June at the Apple Orchard for a delicious meal of herbed scrambled eggs, roasted potatoes, blueberry pancakes with strawberry rhubarb compote, stewed onions, and a wonderful assortment of baked goods. For more information, please email to: events@peconiclandtrust.org.
This event is open to the public.
At the Common Table Dinner: August 16
In late August, join 150 friends and neighbors as they gather at the apple orchard of Quail Hill for our annual At the Common Table family style dinner to support the farms on-going activities. Local chefs prepare a sumptuous feast using farm produce and local meat, fish and shellfish; with wines provided by local vineyards. This is a magical experience for a late summer evening. For more information, please email to: events@peconiclandtrust.org.
The Tomato Taste-Off: Labor Day Weekend
The Quail Hill Farm Great Tomato Taste-Off has quickly become a mainstay event for the East End. Each year, the farm organically grows somewhere in the range of 40 to 45 varieties of cherry, paste and heirloom tomatoes of all shapes, sizes and colors – including red, pink, orange, yellow, purple, and green. The summer’s hot sunny days and occasional rainfall help fulfill the promise of an outstanding crop from year to year. With pen and clipboard in hand, “tasters” taste and rate the tomatoes – with cubes of country bread and designer water to cleanse the palate between bites.
The 2008 tasting is scheduled for Saturday, August 30. In 2007, over 50 varieties of tomatos were be available for tasting (click here for a fact sheet (PDF) on last year's tomato crop; click here for the (PDF) results).
This event is open to the public.
Autumn Harvest Dinner
What better way to celebrate the fall bounty of vegetables than a special evening at a local restaurant. Last year’s feast at The Lodge, featured the culinary creations of host and chef Colin Ambrose; Michael Cinque of Amagansett Wines provided the libations in an evening made warm by the applewood fire. Information on the 14th Annual Autumn Harvest Dinner will be available this summer.
