The Peconic Land Trust collects information volunteered by visitors, such as answers to survey questions, information collected when downloading or requesting publications, and information collected when contacting us or registration to events or for conservation assistance. Information PLT collects includes personally identifiable information (for example, name, address, e-mail, and phone number), information about organizational affiliation, and information about your conservation interests. No personably identifiable information is collected about individuals without their knowledge. PLT also collects aggregate information about Web site use, without personably identifiable information, identifying personal information, such as what pages and sections are most popular with users (using server-side cookies).
How is this information used by PLT?
PLT uses the information you voluntarily provide to help us decide what Web site content, publications, e-mails, and other PLT information would most help you meet your conservation goals and to shape our Web content and e-mail outreach. PLT may also contact you to alert you about a conservation opportunity in your area or to ask you to support our work. PLT uses aggregate information about Web site usage to shape Web site content.
Sharing information with third parties
PLT shares aggregate information about Web users and Web usage with PLT contractors who help us shape Web content to user interests and otherwise improve our Web site. PLT does not make our e-mail list available to third parties.
E-mail policy
PLT provides forms on its Web site where users can sign-up to receive e-mail publications and e-mail notices and conservation topics. No one is placed on a regular e-mail list that has not requested subscription through these forms or in some other manner. Users can unsubscribe from any e-mail list on the registration section of our website or through the unsubscribe link on any email we send you. As new e-mail publications are developed, users may be sent an invitation to subscribe.
Security of Your Information
PLT takes the following measures to ensure that information collected on PLT's Web site is kept secure and is used as intended:
- All data is stored on secure, firewall-protected servers either at PLT offices or those of business partners that support our online donation and email outreach programs..
- Data is accessible only by authorized PLT and partner staff.
- Sensitive data, such as credit card and other financial information, is collected on secure forms and transmitted using industry-standard Secure Socket Layer Encryption (SSL) technology.
- Credit card information is retained only as long as necessary to complete the donation or purchase request of the user.
- PLT takes utmost precaution to protect credit card information. But users who prefer not to use credit cards for online donations can complete PLT's mail-in and fax donation form available here.
Use of cookies
Cookies are pieces of information that are stored on your computer and are used for record keeping purposes. PLT's Web site may use cookies for web statistics only. Cookies can be easily deleted and turned off for any modern web browser.
