The Peconinic – June 7, 2008

PE-CO-NI-NIC: (n) 1. a picnic, 2. a friendly gathering in celebration of land conservation, 3. a special thank you to all supporters of the Peconic Land Trust

Each year, the Peconic Land Trust hosts a celebration to honor our supporters and the land that has been protected through our conservation work – the Peconinic. All donors, volunteers and friends of the Peconic Land Trust are invited to a potluck picnic on spectacular land that has been protected from development through our work. Since 1985, the “Peconinic” has taken place on fields dotted with wildflowers, rich farmland, open lands with magnificent water views, a buffalo farm, meadows ringed by woodland, horse farms, and many other beautiful sites. Several hundred supporters attend every year, enjoying the delicious food, good music and camaraderie. The 2007 Peconinic was held at the Peconic Land Trust's recently acquired Oregon Road Farm in Southold. (See bottom of page for some suggestions of pot luck items.)

The 2008 Peconinic was June 7 at Leuthardt Farm in Jamesport.

We are always looking for Peconinic Angels to help underwrite expenses for tent rental, beverages, invitation, chair and table rentals, music and dessert. Pot-luck Suggestions: green salad, vegetable salad, bean salad, macaroni & cheese, fruit/fruit salad, meat loaf, fritatas, PB&J sandwiches, cold cuts (meat, cheese), pulled pork, deviled eggs, chicken salad, tuna salad, salmon salad, crock pot classics (kielbasi, swedish or italian meatballs, chili).

What the Trust provides: raw bar, fried chicken, rolls, dessert, beer, wine, soft drinks, water
