Farmstand Heritage Celebration — Summer 2008
Welcome to the Peconic Land Trust’s Farmstand Heritage Celebration—an annual campaign to celebrate the East End’s local farming community, in partnership with the Long Island Farm Bureau.Throughout the Spring, Summer and Fall, the Trust is encouraging all residents and visitors to the East End to visit one (and hopefully more) of the local farmstands and farmers markets that dot the North and South Fork of Long Island.
The 2008 Edition of the East End Farmstand map is NOW AVAILABLE for download.[.pdf] It is updated, including over 80 farmstands and farmers markets throughout the five East End towns (Riverhead, Southold, Shelter Island, Southampton and East Hampton), as well as eastern portions of Brookhaven (Wading River, Calverton and Eastport).
Meet Your Local Farmer
The East End’s farmers offer some of the finest fruits, vegetables, herbs, flowers and food products in the country. Our agricultural community is a key component of what makes the East End such a wonderful place to live and visit. We hope that all of us who live here or visit the area will connect with a local farmer in the same way that we connect with our local doctor, mechanic, pharmacist or other service provider. Spend time at their farmstand, learn about why and how farmers do what they do, and then bring home their tasty, fresh, and healthy produce. Connecting with a local farmer can be a wonderful experience for everyone and is key to ensuring the future of agriculture on Long Island.
The map we have prepared is a living a document. The Trust will continue to update it -- adding new farmstands and farmers markets, updating information on hours and products, and other new information and details over time. Check back often to see how the East End’s agricultural market changes and evolves.
